Xi shang
Xi-Shang comes from the People’s Republic of China’s Yunnan province, which has long been called the “Mysterious territory of east”. On this Hongtu highland, there are many ancient and mysterious minority cultures. The art forms bred from this area are different from southern China’s sweet and delectable style such as “Little bridge and stream,” and are also different from northwest China ’s bitter and rough style such as “Great desert and lonely smoke.”
With high mountains and deep forests blanketed in cloud and fog, with many mysterious minority peoples within Yunnan’ s borders, a craving and crying for life float about everywhere. This is an area where a cultural exploration, full of myth and religiousness, combines with an element of ancient primitiveness.
The expressiveness of Xi-Shang’ s serial drawing compositions, uses a method of exaggeration and changing appearances to express an archetype truth. Supposing that in the pictures many surrealist factors without reference to each other, exist reasonably, some designed emblematic symbols and totems easily interrelate together in the compositions.
In disposal of human bodies, efforts are made to try to dissolve the personality identity, leaving the body to become an existence of subject’s emblematic symbol, and all symbols without reference to each other, are put together in the female body from but also in imaginary form, allowing amore charming entrancing image.
In the “Eastern complex” the spirit is expressed in several crossing and moving curves, and the life situation pointed in that several reduplicated and contrasting colours, all fully express humanities struggles with nature, humanities harmony with nature, and humanities craving for the future. Here, if you want to sing, you can sing aloud; if you want to dance ,you can dance as you like; if you want to fly ,you can fly in sky like an eagle.
